Its origins date back to the Iron Age, and it remained inhabited during the Roman and medieval periods, eventually becoming a feudal fortress. Its strategic location on a natural elevation surrounded by water made it easily defensible. Today, it is a symbol of Galicia’s castro and medieval past, with strong legendary associations linked to its disappearance beneath the waters. It is situated on an islet in the Belesar reservoir, emerging only when water levels drop.
