Viana do Bolo Tower

The Viana do Bolo Tower, known as the Castle of Viana, is a symbol of the Viana region. Built in the 15th century, it was erected by order of the Count of Monterrei to consolidate control over this strategic area. The tower dominates the landscape from its elevated position, overlooking the valleys and roads connecting Galicia to Castile. During the Irmandiño Wars in the 15th century, this fortress witnessed popular revolts against feudal power. Today, the tower has been restored and houses the Ethnographic Museum of Viana, where visitors can explore the region’s traditions and history.
