Santo Estevo de Ribas de SIl

Cultural HeritageMonasteries

Majestic and monumental, the Monastery of Santo Estevo is one of Galicia’s greatest treasures. Its origins go back to the early centuries of Christianity, though it was during the Middle Ages that it reached immense power, housing up to nine retired bishops, which gave it remarkable prestige. The complex blends Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque styles, with three cloisters and a grand church standing out. After centuries of decline, it was restored and today serves as a National Parador, where visitors can sleep surrounded by centuries of history while enjoying breathtaking views of the Sil Canyon.
